
The Meade County Sheriff’s Office arrested a police officer on Thursday for allegedly being drunk while on duty.
According to the arrest citation, Muldraugh Police Chief Timmy Jackson and Ofc. Jay Burke were on a vandalism call when Jackson smelled alcohol on Burke’s breath.
Jackson followed Burke to Muldraugh City Hall after the vandalism call, and investigated further by giving Burke a preliminary breath test which resulted in a .077 breath alcohol concentration (BrAC), the citation reads.
Kentucky State Police then arrived and made Burke go through some field sobriety tests. The citation said Burke took KSP’s breathalyzer test, and it read .090 BrAC.
Burke is charged with reckless driving and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.The Meade County Sheriff’s Office says Muldraugh Police Officer Jay R. Burke faces charges of Driving Under the Influence and Reckless Driving following his arrest Thursday.
According to a release from the sheriff’s office, the sheriff’s office and the Kentucky State Police were asked by Muldraugh Police Chief Tim Jackson to assist with an investigation into Burke allegedly being impaired while on duty. Burke was arrested and lodged in the Meade County Detention Center as a result of the preliminary investigation.
Burke is scheduled to appear for an arraignment hearing in Meade District Court on April 16. The investigation is ongoing.
